#145. April 16th, 2013: Tim Miller

Where in the world do I begin with a man like Tim Miller. Let’s see here, he’s the Associate Dean of Students here at GW, he’s the vision behind The Miller Band, he’s my boss’s boss’s boss’s boss, and he’s one of the most inspiring and genuine men I’ve ever met. I’m pretty sure everything truly began when he decided to help me with the Before I Die Wall. And he literally did decide. No one made him, in fact, without his willingness to help out, the Wall would not be here. Tim is one of the most transparent, helpful, and compassionate administrators here at GW and he practices what he preaches more than anyone I’ve ever met. Even when it comes to little things, he’ll spend a few minutes with you in the hallway answering your questions (even if you have over 1,000 🙂 ), he’ll help out on the spot, and he’s easily the most timely person ever when it comes to responding to emails. He’s a fearless leader, always willing to look at things from a new perspective and always willing to listen. Truly listen. I remember when I had a House Staff incident this year that left me pretty rattled in the morning and when I woke up, I had a personal email from him offering his ear and his comfort if I needed anything. He’s incredibly personable, charismatic, passionate, and kind. He has phenomenal leadership abilities and he’s absolutely fantastic at letting others take the stage and letting others take the credit. He’s ridiculously modest and humble and that is easily an understatement. He’s dedicated and devoted to his life and making those around him feel comfortable, taken care of, and loved. He is a rockstar guitar player, and after speaking with another AC the other day, it sounds like he is almost always in the office until late after it closes, sometimes practices his music. Tim is absolutely hilarious and is perfect with delivery and tone. He has the knack of making fun of people he cares about and it’s awesome 🙂 Most of all, he has been and continues to be such a mentor and role model for me and many others. If I think of integrity, I think of Tim. If I think of someone being a quality man, I think of Tim. And when I think of someone who makes me unbelievably proud to be a Colonial, Tim is EASILY first in my head. Tim is a superb human being, and I am so thankful to have him as part of my life. My projects and my confidence would not be where they are today were it not for Tim, and for that I am so grateful. He also is a quality yeller when it comes to wearing hats in freezing cold weather 🙂 Anyway, Tim, you really are such an exquisite individual. I remember during that bitter cold opening of the Wall when you put your hand on my shoulder and told me you were proud of me. That moment was so crucial for me in that I felt so accomplished and happy with what was in front of me for the benefit of the community. Tim, thank you so much for being who you are. Thank you so much for being the leader that GW needs and thank you so much for being such a big part of the GW family. Thank you so much for leading by example and thank you so much for dealing with my insanity and ridiculousness all of the time. Thank you so much for being a man of your word and for supporting so many initiatives on campus, even when there’s a lot at stake 🙂 Thank you so much for believing in me and for lending me your confidence with the things I am doing. Thank you so much for being such a big part of so many lives on this campus and beyond, and thank you so much for the impact you have made and will continue to make in this world. For all of that, Tim, I thank you 🙂
