Last night was one of the most remarkable nights of my life. It was the overnight Spring Retreat for Colonial Cabinet and it’s an experience that is quite hard to grasp and describe. After tons of tears and tissues, I wrote this last night before bed and read it to all of their amazing and beautiful faces today. They are my thank you for today, as one big family 🙂
Dear Colonial Cabinet of 2013-
I’m speechless. I’m in awe of the puzzle pieces that have come together to make each one of you unique. I’m amazed at how strong you all are, at how vigilant and humble you all are, and at how deeply caring and loving you all are. Never before have I been a part of such a sharing and transformative experience. It honestly feels as if I’ve come out again, with a weight coming off my shoulders and new arms spread wide in front of me to embrace. Each and every one of you is rich. Rich with experiences, good and bad, that have spilled onto the pages of your life, adding to the beautiful painting that is YOU. Each of you has a wealth of passionate and powerful stories to give this world that can change lives in big and small ways, and the fact that I was honored to listen to them makes me the luckiest guy in the world.
It’s clear that people are what matter. We all said it in some way, that the relationships we have with those around us are what matter most, and so I have to say thank you. Thank you so much again for opening up last night and for giving all of us a place in your hearts. Thank you so much for the honesty, the vulnerability, and the ability to let go. Thank you so much for bringing so many things full circle for me, and for allowing me to say, “hey, I guess I’m not the only one who felt that way.”
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being some truly stunning human beings. One night in a room has changed me. Imagine what a summer will bring 🙂
