#47. January 8th, 2013: Mr. Shay

In a school named Canyon Crest Academy, there’s a teacher named Mr. Shay. He has a pencil behind his ear and a smile that makes just about anyone happy 🙂 Mr. Shay is absolutely one of the best teachers at CCA. I, unfortunately, never had him as a teacher, however, I did, and still do, have him as a mentor and a friend in my life. Mr. Shay is extremely welcoming and kind to EVERYONE. When you meet him, you instantly know that you’re in the presence of a genuinely kind human being. Mr. Shay has been pivotal in my development as a gay man and he has helped me over the years to become the confident person I am today. He listens to my ridiculous stories of my feelings and emotions and almost always laughs at my hopeless romanticism. But he does so in such a caring and supportive way which makes him so much fun to talk to and to be around. Mr. Shay is also unique in that he is an adult male figure in my life that I can talk to about anything regarding sexuality or things of that matter. On all seriousness, it’s always been so incredible to have someone like him to talk to and to bounce ideas off of. He always gives me an honest perspective and he always is there to help move you forward. It’s hard to explain, but basically I just appreciate him so very much for how true to himself he is, how compassionate and kind he is, and how he demonstrates integrity with everything that he does. He has been such a role model for me for as long as I’ve known him and I know he serves as a leader on campus for everyone as well. He is also one of the happiest and funniest people that I know and I absolutely love it 🙂 Anyway, Mr. Shay, thank you so much for dealing with all of the ridiculous things I have to say; especially today and all those feelings I told you about 🙂 Thank you so much for being a listening ear when I need it and for being a beacon of light and strength in the gay community and the world in general. You are truly a phenomenal man and your husband must be so proud of you and happy to have you! 🙂 Thank you so much for your honesty and for your ability to relate and care for individuals on a human level. Thank you so much for being there for many people that I care about, and thank you so much for being in my life. I really, really and thankful to have you. For all of that, Mr. Shay, I thank you 🙂
