#18. December 10th, 2012: Ryan Johnson

If you know Ryan Johnson, then you know what a raptor looks like. Also, you probably know what it feels like to have a spectacular friend, because that is exactly what Ryan is to people! I have known Ryan since kindergarten and he has always been so unbelievably friendly and compassionate to me and those around him. He is very dedicated to caring for his friends and family, and his family is basically a bunch of rockstars. They are all so cool! Seriously! Anyway, Ryan really is an amazing person. During high school, he was always that person you would want to see, especially if you were having a bad day. You literally could always count on him being there make you smile and be happy and to just relax. There’s definitely something about him that makes you more relaxed and comfortable when you’re around him. Maybe it’s the surfing aspect of him. Surfs up, brah!!!! But really, he has a fantastic personality that makes it so much fun to be around him and he sets a superb example to those that look up to him. With that, something that I have noticed is that he is such a role model to his brothers and he does a great job at being there for them and being supportive overall. He was a fabulous captain on the volleyball team throughout high school, always knowing how to balance hard work and determination with humor and fun. Everyone on the team knew they could count on him to bring the team up when we needed it, but also to SLAMMMMM the ball down because he is just the best outside hitter around. Hands down. Well, maybe Tad has that title but I don’t know 🙂 But actually, his vertical is ridonkulous and it’s especially awesome when you’re witnessing it from the point of view of a libero. In fact, I owe it to Ryan and a few other friends for getting me to play volleyball. The summer after 9th grade we were playing beach and they told me I would good a libero. I said, “We’ll see” and Ryan said “No, you WILL be coming to tryouts” and the rest is history 🙂 Ryan is basically a well rounded man, a nice guy, a phenomenal friend, and a huge inspiration, all bundled into one body. The talk we had during our final season of volleyball is engrained in my mind and I can’t explain how much I appreciate that moment, Ryan 🙂 Thank you so much for always being there for me since we were freakin’ 5 year olds and thank you for living the way you do. You have this own littler Ryan Johnson style and way of life that no one else has and it’s awesome 🙂 Anyway, for all that, Ryan, I thank you! 🙂
